Healthy hooves.....naturally!
RECOMMENDED BOOKS:
All of these books are great resources to have on hand.
I have read them and learned something from each book and I recommend reading other farrier books for comparison purposes
to really help you see the difference in trimming styles.
By Pete Ramey, this book is a
must-read rescource.
"Making Natural Hoof Care Work for You" by Pete Ramey.
By Jamie Jackson, the a
for-runner of the natural hoof care movement. Full of great ideas on horse keeping.
"Paddock Paradise" by Jamie Jackson
Also by Jamie Jackson, contains
tons of research on wild horses and how hooves should be.
Horse Owner's Guide to Natural Hoof Care
For those who prefer to watch
videos instead of reading, but I still recommend reading the above books!
DVD Understanding the Horse's Hoof
By Cherry Hill, this book is
comprehensive without too much reading. Hits the highlights of good hoof care.

I recommend checking out the following sites!
These are sites by professional trimmers. I consider them to be very educational,
however if you are interested in becoming a professional trimmer, please seek out hands-on education rather than just picking
up some nippers. It takes a LOT of GUIDED practice to know what you are doing!
Pete Ramey's site is informative and convicting if you are considering natural hoof care. http://www.hoofrehab.com/
Jamie Jackson is the forerunner in natural hoof care. His observations
on the wild horse compared to domestic horses is brilliant. http://www.primechoice.com/jaime-jackson/
Linda Cowles has tons of pictures and individual case studies on her site.

Iron Free Hoof is another very informative site. http://www.ironfreehoof.com/
This site is informative.

Gene Ovnicek does Natural Balance Shoeing and I'm
fundamentally against shoeing, but his ideas on trimming are insightful and practical. http://www.hopeforsoundness.com/ I highly recommend
this site for nutrition information about horses. It has some surprising information. http://www.safergrass.org/

For those of you wanting to learn more...I recently took
an on-line class about natural hoof care, and really enjoyed it. It was more thorough than I had anticipated, but well worth
the time to take! Very informative and thought provoking. I did pass and get my certificate, if any of you were wondering.
